PHSE
INTENT
To ensure all pupils:
- develop the skills, knowledge and understanding to lead confident, healthy and independent lives
- become informed, active and responsible citizens
- have opportunities to reflect on their experiences and understand how they are developing personally and socially
- gain an ability to recognise their own worth and to see the worth of others
- form effective and fulfilling relationships which are essential to life and learning, recognising common humanity and show respect for the diversity of, and differences between, people
- receive support as they learn the skills needed for personal, social and moral development
IMPLEMENTATION
- Although PSHE is a non-statutory subject, personal, social, health and economic (PSHE) education is an important and necessary part of all pupils’ education so that they are well prepared to play an active role as members of a diverse society. We want our children to be safe and happy and we encourage them to develop self-awareness, positive self-esteem and confidence during their time at school to enable them to make informed choices both now and in their future. In the Early Years, the Foundation Stage Curriculum and any issues, thoughts, and views of the children inform the planning. We teach PSED (Personal, Social, Emotional Development) as an integral part of the integrated curriculum as set out in Development Matters in the Early Years Foundation Stage. In Key Stage 1, children access ‘Be the jellyfish’ to support them in their well-being and understanding. Opportunities exist throughout the school curriculum for promoting pupils’ personal, social, and emotional development. Assemblies introduce or develop PSHE themes and also provide opportunities to celebrate children’s social and emotional success through awards. PSHE lessons and Circle Times provide structured time for children to reflect on their attitudes, actions and interactions with others.
